GCC u17s pick up big win on first outing

Garboldisham U17s v Mattishall U17s. 31 May 2017. SNCL 16 over 8-a-side Match report by Toby Culling On a beautiful summer’s evening at The Langley, the unbeaten under 15s side of last year came together again for their first u17 match vs Mattishall. After picking names out of a hat captain Toby found his steady scoring self, last in the batting order. Oli Cambelle and Finlay Penrose opened and got Garb off to a flyer! 8 overs in, Oli was hitting boundaries for fun to help his team to 70 for 1. The fall of Joe Baker brought “Game changer” Arthur Johnson to the crease. The little man hit some big shots including a massive 6 to the club house where he was caught by coach Jack Stevenson. Arthur went on to demolish the Mattishall attack until being bowled for 27 off just 14 balls! Not bad for a Sunday league player… Next in was George Southgate who had clearly been watching the IPL and played an outrageous ramp first ball! The disrespect continued as he …

Bank holiday weekend round-up

It’s been a busy weekend of cricket for GCC. Here’s a round-up of all matches Saturday 27 May While England were battling against South Africa in the second ODI at the Ageas Bowl with a brilliant final match winning over from Mark Wood, there was an equalling exciting finish taking place at The Langley between Garboldisham 1sts and Downham Town CC. Downham had batted first and were 237-8 after their 50 overs. Despite good contributions from all the Garby batsmen, none of them were able to go on to pick up a big total that would see them easily over the line and going into the final over they needed 8 or so runs to win. Captain Danny Cash picked up a boundary and with 4 runs needed off the final ball, Cashy was bowled and Garby finished just short on 234-9. Over on the new pitch, Garby 3rds were facing Gooderstone CC. Gooderstone won the toss, batted first but struggled against the Garby attack and found themselves bowled out for just 91 with Fevs taking 3 wickets, …

U9s kick off season with a win

Tas Valley U9s v Garboldisham U9s. 21 May 2017 Match report by James Worby The Under 9s kicked off their season with an away match at Tas Valley. Captain Jago Bucher won the toss and chose to field. Jago and Ryan Woodrow opened the bowling for Garby and restricted Tas Valley’s scoring opportunities thanks to their accurate bowling and good fielding by all, including Oscar Harris who was undertaking wicket keeping duties for the first time. Jago, Libby Worby, Freya Button, Oscar Baker, Johnny Wynn and Braydon Grant each got a wicket too, meaning that by the end of the allotted 16 overs, Garby had restricted Tas Valley to a total of 139 for 6 (a net score of 109). Johnny and Braydon opened the batting for Garby and scored well, including an excellent 4 for Johnny, without losing any wickets. They were followed by Libby and Ryan, then Freya and Jago who all batted out their 4 over spells without losing any wickets. By the time Oscar Harris and Oscar Baker came on for …

Ouch! Match summaries Saturday 20 May

Photo: 2nd team captain James Worby breaks a finger while fielding in the slips. Worbs will be out of action for 4-6 weeks Garboldisham 1st XI travelled out towards Kings Lynn to face North Runcton CC. Runcton batted first and Garby found their openers impossible to dislodge, and 38 overs in, the home side were on 157-0. With rain falling, an early tea was taken and the game was reduced to 45 overs with Runcton finishing on 210-2. Garboldisham made a good start and were on 76-1 before another downpour forced them back into the pavilion, and with no let-up in the weather, the match was abandoned with both sides picking up just a small handful of points. Back in Garboldisham, the 2nds were at home to Bircham CC who batted first. 30 or so overs in, the Bircham batsman edged a ball which flew through to Garby captain James Worby who was fielding in the slips. The ball hit the tip of Worby’s left index finger and the captain was forced to retire with a suspected broken …

Strong wins for 1s and 2s – Match summaries Saturday 13 May

Photo: First team scorer Dawn Briggs tots up the figures after the 1sts emphatic win against Brooke CC Garboldisham 1st XI were at home to Brooke CC who won the toss, and with dampness on the pitch, put Garby in to bat. Tom Davey was out lbw first ball to one that kept low and then Henry Phoenix was unfortunate to be run out at the non-strikers end when the bowler managed to get a finger on to a straight drive from Aussie, Dan Constable. Dan went on to make 31 runs before edging one to the keeper. Solid middle order runs from Alex Hogg (42), Matt Allin (32) Kieran Pask (37) and Danny Cash (15) pushed the Garby score along nicely, and with the wagging tail of James Shepherd (24*) and Rob Fuller (15), Garboldisham finished on a meaty 233-9 off 50 overs. Visitors Brooke struggled right from the start of their innings and their wickets fell at regular intervals under the sustained attack from the Garby bowlers and fielders, and they were all out for just …

Saturday’s fixtures 13 May 2017

It’s turned into a lovely Friday evening here in Garboldisham – the rain has moved on and hopefully we’re set fair for tomorrow’s matches. The Firsts are at home and face Brooke and they’ll be hoping to bounce back from their close run defeat last week against Sprowston. The second team are travelling to West Norfolk to face Stow. The Thirds are at home to our neighbours East Harling and the Fourths are just down the road at Old Buckenham. Good luck to all! Yesterday, Garboldisham Over 40s oiled their rusty joints and played their first match of the season with a good win at Rocklands – with runs galore from Mark Snowling and wickets from Dean Smith. Evidently Garby only had ten and a half men – not sure who the half man was…? If you want to catch the Over 40s in action, they have another game on Thursday 18th May next week at home against Tivetshall. And we have three youth matches coming up next week: on Monday the 15th the U11s are …

Worby top scores with 93. GCC match summaries for Saturday 6 May

GCC 1st XI were away to Sprowston 1sts. Sprowston batted first and were bowled out in their final over for 173 with two wickets each for Kieran Pask, Alex Hogg, Dan Constable and Rob Fuller, and a wicket for Gavin Barnes, with Mat Allin picking up a run-out. It wasn’t the easiest of wickets to bat on and at the first drink’s break, Garboldisham were 4 wickets down with 103 on the board – but still in with a good chance of chasing down the home side’s total. However a middle order batting collapse saw Garby reeling on 125-9, but a tense last wicket stand of 43 between Rob Fuller and Shep dragged Garboldisham close to the line but unfortunately Sprowston snatched the final wicket to leave Garby just 6 runs short on 168 all out… Thanks to Rob Fuller for posting updates of this match on twitter. Back at The Langley, the 2nds were up against Hardingham 1sts. Batting first, Garby scored a tasty 250-8 with captain James Worby (pictured above) finishing just a handful of …

Nail-biting loss for U13s

Match report by James Worby Norfolk Alliance Under 13s Great Ellingham U13’s 73-3 beat Garboldisham U13’s 71 All out by 2 runs. The under 13 side kicked off the season with a narrow nail biting 2 run loss at home vs Gt Ellingham. Winning the toss and Bowling first Captain Will Cunningham opted for Harry Pulllen and Jack Whitlam to open the bowling, both bowled well with control and Harry got the breakthrough by clean bowling Mariner. 2 more early wickets from Oscar Skilleter and Harry Button together with some tight bowling from all meant that Gt Ellingham were restricted to 27-3 from the first 8 overs. But Amber Thompson came to the crease in fine touch and together with Hayes batted to the end with no more wickets lost, Amber finishing on a fine 23 Not Out and Hayes 5 Not Out and the pair pushed Ellingham to a below par but defendable 73-3 from their 16 overs. The Garby run chase started badly, Amber continued to shine, this time with the ball by clean bowling …
