Noddy Holder at GCC

This week’s Picture of the week is an oldie but goodie of Noddy Holder (aka Barnsey) performing with the Glamtastics at last September’s end of season Hog Roast at Lyng Farm Barn. Please send in your pictures for inclusion in Picture of the week (and send in any pictures anyway for our Gallery pages or for use on a story). The Picture of the week picture files should be horizontal (landscape) shaped and need to be at least 1200 x 800 pixels in size (which is about 2mb). Pictures can be action shots, team shots, pictures from social events, drawings – just whatever you fancy. Please email them to postmaster@garbocc.co.uk

Micky, Jerry and mates have a good run out

While the England cricket team were winning the second test against the West Indies, a bunch of mice were having a good run out at GCC’s mouse racing night at The Langley. Thank you to Sands and Dick Culling for organising a great evening’s entertainment as Mick, Jerry, Julius Cheeser and lots of other mice battled it out in eight races that took part throughout the evening. And thank you to all the bar and kitchen staff who kept us well watered and fed with delicious home-made lasagne and to Lydia and Sarah who ran the tote. You can see more photos on our gallery page. GCC may be forced to play with two stumps!

A lack of funds for new equipment and building repairs mean that Garboldisham B and C teams may only be able to use four stumps this season instead of the usual six. Club Welfare Officer and wielder of the big stick, Debbie Raven said, “The coffers are empty, we need players to pay their annual subs as soon as possible so that I can go out and buy some new stumps.” But seriously, all players must make sure that they are registered as club members for the season before they are eligible to play any matches. The £10.00 membership fee covers players’ insurance against injury and goes towards the upkeep and maintenance of the club. This year, there will also be an extra £15.00 surcharge per player, as agreed in the AGM, to help fund a contractor to put the pitches to bed at the end of the season. Please complete both membership forms and hand them in with a cheque or cash to Debbie. Picture shows Debbie Raven looking on with horror from the score box as Garboldisham C are forced to …

Picture of the week

We’re going to start up a Picture of the week slot so please send in your pictures for inclusion (and send in any pictures anyway for our Gallery pages or for use on a story). The Picture of the week picture files should be horizontal (landscape) shaped and need to be at least 1200 x 800 pixels in size (which is about 2mb). To kick it off, and in lieu of a GCC photo, this week we’re featuring Jimmy Anderson celebrating his fourth wicket in the first test against West Indies in Antigua, to become England’s highest test wicket taker with 384 wickets. He overtook Ian Botham’s 23 year record. Photo by Getty

GCC season gets underway this weekend

Garboldisham play two friendlies this weekend as the season winds up. Today (Sat April 18) there is a match at home against Old Buckenham 3rds and tomorrow (Sunday April 19) Garboldisham travel to Old Buckenham to take on their first team. The season starts proper in a fortnight’s time on May 2 with all four adult teams playing their first league matches. Take a look at the Fixtures and results page for details.

The return of the Foxes…

It looks like the club will be digging out and dusting down the old Garboldisham Foxes maroon and green kit so that it can be used by a Garboldisham CC U19 side who will be formed this season to take part in the new NatWest club U19 Twenty20 competition! Garboldisham will be in Group 3 of one of three Norfolk groups. Each group contains four teams and the Foxes will be up against Brooke Blaze, Sprowston Sprowcats and Swardeston Sharks. These three fixtures will take place in July and August and are still to be arranged so watch this space for details. The winner of each group will take part in a final’s day. Those eligible to play will be anyone who was aged 18 or under on the 31 August last year (2014). For more details take a look at the NCB website. The last time the coloured Foxes kit saw the light of day was, of course, when Garboldisham U17s, captained by Lewis Taylor, won the Junior Carter Cup by beating Swardeston in the final at …

Women’s Indoor League Final – match report

Here’s the match report from the tense and exciting Norfolk Cricket Board Women’s Indoor League Final which was played on Sunday March 29 between Garboldisham and Topcroft: Having been put into bat by Topcroft, Garboldisham got off to a steady start with Jade Hoyte and Hanna Free batting well without the loss of a wicket in their 4 overs. Megan Hogg and Primrose Rushen were next into bat and played some good shots during their innings. Unfortunately the loss of a few wickets put the pressure on final pair Sarah McGahan and Lydia Raven who needed to bat well to get Garboldisham to a competitive score. With some sensible batting, no wickets lost and a lot of running, Garboldisham managed to reach 247-6 at the end of their innings, a net score of 217. This was the lowest score the team had reached in all their previous matches and the team knew they had to field and bowl really well to get a win. Topcroft got off to a flying start in their first 2 …
