Four wins and a fun day out

On Saturday 26 May there were wins all round for all the Garboldisham teams. The 1sts had their first victory of the season at home against Brooke. Batting first, Garby were 253-9 and then bowled Brooke all out for 114. James Wilby ended five short of a century on 95 and Kieran Pask scored 43. Pick of the Garboldisham bowlers was Philip King with 4 for 21 off 7 overs. The 2nds continue their string of successes with a 5 wicket win away at Bradenham having bowled them out for 159. The 3rds were away at Mellis and bowled the home side out for 119, with Ben Tippett taking 4 for 9 off his 6 overs, to help secure an 8 wicket win. The 4ths were at home, batted first and were skittled out for just 113 – but then proceeded to bowl the visitors out for just 77! Busy couple of days for U11s

U11s v Thetford, 20 May 2018 The U11s first home match of the season saw them pitted against Thetford. Garby won the toss and elected to field. Jack and Adam opened the bowling to good effect with Adam getting a wicket in his first over.  They were then followed by of Libby & Sacha, Zach & Elliot and Robyn in her first match.  Despite good fielding and accurate bowling, giving away just 11 wides and 1 no ball in their 16 overs, we were unable to get any more wickets, and Thetford went on to score a total of 141 runs. Oscar and Libby opened the batting for Garby. Unfortunately, a mix-up in the first over led to Libby being run-out and then both Elliot and Jack fell victim to some good Thetford bowling.  With Garby under pressure Zach came into bat, and for the remainder of the match both he and Oscar held firm and scored runs. However, they were not able to score at the required rate, and we finished the match with …

U11s v Gt Ellingham

The U11s started their 2018 season with a ‘pairs’ match against Gt Ellingham.  Ellingham won the toss and elected to field.  Oscar and Jack opened the batting for Garby, and were followed by the pairings of Libby & Freya, Adam & Sacha, and Jonny & Abbey.  They all played well and, at the end of their innings, reached 246 with the loss of just four wickets.  Top scorer was Oscar with 13. Whilst Garby had set a competitive target, they knew that they had to bowl and field well as the light deteriorated.  With Oscar keeping wicket, the rest of the team put in an excellent bowling and fielding display to restrict Gt Ellingham’s scoring.  On top of wickets from Libby and Adam, Gt Ellingham were run-out twice.  Going into the last over Gt Ellingham needed 10 to win, but an excellent display of bowling by Jack restricted them to just two runs, and also resulted in a run-out, which gave Garby a much deserved win as Gt Ellingham finished on 229. The team should …
