Match summaries for Saturday 11 July 2015 The 1sts had a very good home win against Topcroft, which now edges them up to second place in Division One of the Dipple and Conway Norfolk Alliance. Topcroft batted first and a late spurt of runs pushed their score up to 206 for the loss of 8 wickets which Garboldisham chased down with 18 overs to spare to win by 6 wickets and finish on 211 for 4. Captain Danny Cash hit the winning runs with a cracking hook shot over square leg that sent the ball soaring over the fence and in to the farmer’s field for six to leave Danny on 50 not out. There were 47 runs apiece from Kristian Williman and from Kieran Pask who was playing his first league match for the club. Megan Hogg hit a superb 52 not out for Garboldisham Ladies in their win against Great Melton Ladies. Match report by Sarah McGahan, Captain Garboldisham hosted Great Melton in the TGS (Thetford Grammar School) Norfolk Women’s league on Tuesday 7 July 2015. Having won the toss, Garby decided to field first. The innings started well with Lydia Raven removing one of the Melton openers and after several attempts from other people, Sarah McGahan managed to run out the other opener. Melton started to hit some good shots but tight bowling from Emily Heuschneider (on her debut for GCC Ladies) and Georgie Dunkinson, kept the runs down. A good catch from Jade Hoyte dismissed Melton’s number 3 bat and more good catches from Georgie Dunkinson and Megan Hogg and effective bowling from Sophie Snowling and Rebecca Cole (also making her debut) meant Great Melton finished on 101 for 6. Jade and Megan opened the batting for Garby and runs started to steadily flow. Some good shots from Jade saw her make 11 as Megan continued to push the score along. Georgie joined Megan …

Dick Culling clocks up 116 for the 3rds in their win against St Andrews Match summaries for Saturday 4 July 2015 The 1sts travelled out east to Beccles where they continued their winning run. The hosts batted first, were bowled out, but posted a pretty high scoring 234 which Garboldisham chased down (236) for the loss of just 4 wickets. The 1sts now sit third in the league with only 14 points separating them and league leaders North Runcton although Runcton do have a game in hand. Garby are away to North Runcton in a fortnight’s time so that will be a key game to watch out for. Meanwhile, the 2nds were at home to Norwich B. On this glorious summer’s day the visitors batted first but were restricted to just 157 runs for the loss of all their wickets. Jimmy Gooderham took 4-42, Fevs 3-41 and Rowan Freake 3-15. Thursday 2 July, 2015 This was the first of Garboldisham U19s’ fixtures in the newly formed Norfolk t20 competition and it didn’t disappoint with lots of runs, wickets and fun. Stuey Taylor had fired up the BBQ and there was a blast of music for every boundary and wicket. The Foxes batted first and the line-up included several of the lads from the winning Junior Carter cup U17 side from 2013. Openers Matt Plater and Kristian Williman set about their business and Kristian continued with the great batting form that he’s been displaying all season for the 1sts, and he scored 52 runs with a delightful collection of shots before having to retire as per the competition rules. Captain Henry Phoenix picked up where Kristian had left off and the lads continued to find boundaries. Henry kept the scoreboard ticking …

Garboldisham U15s batted first and scored 135 off their 16 overs with Toby Culling picking up a half century and finishing on 53 and Angus Pringle scoring 38. The hosts nibbled away at Garby’s total and benefitting from some dropped catches and misfielding, secured victory with a winning run off the very last ball of the match. An exciting game that could so easily have gone the other way if Garboldisham had been tighter in the field.

Thanks to Lydia Raven for organising the rather tasty wine tasting evening at The Langley yesterday evening. We were entertained by wine expert Camilla from ThirtyFifty and got to try out and learn about all different sorts of wine from around the world. Lewi score 142 and notched up his first century for the club Match summaries for Saturday 27 June 2015 The 1sts had a final few tense overs in their away game at Horsford but managed to scrape victory, grab the 23 points and move up to third in the league table. Horsford batted first and were restricted to 193 all out with Rob Fuller picking up 5 wickets – his second fifer of the season. With the bat, Kristian Williman had another superb knock for GCC, finishing on 96 and just 4 runs short of his century. After Kristian’s heroics, Garby survived a nervy batting collapse and with no wickets in hand the final two batsmen saw them over the line to win by one wicket. The 2nds had the day off after their opponents Narborough pulled out of the league earlier in the season. Like the 1sts, the 3rds had a heart-in-the-mouth game against visitors Saxlingham.
