GCC match summaries for Saturday 6 August

Four wickets and a half century from Aussie Dan Constable helped the 1sts to a comfortable win at home over top-of-the-table Sprowston. Garby lost the toss and the visitors chose to bat but found themselves bowled out for just 106 with the wickets taken by Dan, Gavin Barnes (2), Alex Hogg (2), Luke Rackham (1), Kieran Pask (1) plus a run-out. In reply, Garboldisham lost just the one wicket of Alex Hogg (21) with Dan finishing on 59 not out. The 1sts move up to equal second place in the table alongside Sprowston with Brooke CC moving into the top spot.

GCC 2nds were away to Dersingham in a tense thriller in which Garby just managed to scrape victory. Garby won the toss and put the home side in to bat, restricting them to 140-8. Jack Buckmaster took 3 wickets, there were 2 wickets apiece for Rory Olpin and Karl Gooderham and one for captain Paul Feavearyear. With bat in hand, Garby wicket-keeper and opener Jack Stevenson scored an excellent 73 but all the other GCC batsmen struggled to get into double figures. The game went right down to the final over and with no wickets in hand, Garby’s tail-enders picked up the winning runs to see Garby over the line on the last but one ball of the match… The 2nds hang on to top place in their league.

The 3rds were away and lost to Castle Rising. Details to follow.

The 4ths were at home to Great Melton in another close fought game. Melton won the toss and put Garboldisham in to bat and excellent knocks from Joe Baker (64) and Oliver Campbell (63) helped the 4ths to 287-7 after 45 overs. But it wasn’t to be quite enough on this high scoring pitch as the visitors chased down the Garby total in 43.2 overs with a score of 290-7 to win by 3 wickets.
