U15s suffer first loss of the season against strong Old Buck’ side

Garboldisham U15s 90 for 6 v Old Buckenham U15s 116 for 3. Wednesday 3 June 2015

Norfolk Alliance U15s 8-a-side 16 overs

Summer finally showed its face at The Langley and it was good to watch a game without being wrapped up in a coat. Old Buckenham u15s batted first and scored a well-earned 116 for 3 with Joe Baker taking a fantastic high one-handed catch off the bowling of Oscar Rushen. Georgie Dunkinson, and Toby Culling (caught and bowled) took the other two wickets. 116 from 16 overs is pretty good going in U15 cricket and Garby knew they’d have a job on their hands in chasing it down. Openers Toby and Joe Baker started well enough until Joe was out caught and bowled and then replacement batsman Finlay Penrose was dismissed in a similar fashion. The Old Buck’ fielding and bowling was spot on the mark and Angus Pringle and Oscar both saw their stumps tumble. Meanwhile Toby Culling, looking sharp and in the zone, kept the scoreboard ticking over with a mixture of hard run singles and boundaries until he was obliged to retire on 30. In at six, Georgie Dunkinson pushed the score along with a couple of well-timed edges that flew to the third man boundary and one of the shots of the evening was Georgie’s beautifully hit straight drive that brought her another boundary. Emma Rogers and Angus Russell added more valuable runs at the end but it was never going to be quite enough and Garboldisham finished 27 runs short on 90 for 6. It was an enjoyable evening’s cricket played in good spirit by both sides.
Thanks to Sandy Culling, stand in U15 manager, for her effervescent team management and hospitality and to Paul Marshall, one of last Saturday’s GCC 3rds heroes, for scoring.
