Norfolk Alliance Club of the year 2014

Garboldisham CC have been awarded the Dipple & Conway Opticians Norfolk Cricket Alliance Club of the Year 2014. Rob Fuller and Second XI captain Andy Freake collected the award and are pictured above. The award is based on points given by umpires and the oppositions’ captains for the quality of the club’s facilities, grounds, pitch, scorers, pavilion and so on as well as for fair play. It is also judged on the club administration – how registration deadlines are met and the timely submission of results.

U17s win Junior Carter Cup… again

Garboldisham U17s won the Junior Carter Cup at Manor Park, Horsford on Sunday 8 September 2013 for the second time in 3 years. A match winning partnership of 165 between Henry Phoenix (105no) and Kristian Williman (48no) saw Garboldisham home by 9 wickets against overwhelming favourites Swardeston. Having won the toss Garboldisham skipper Lewis Taylor invited his counterpart to bat on a firm but green Manor Park wicket. With Jack Haliwell and Allin both bowling tight spells they started to turn the screw and the Swardeston batsmen found scoring very difficult and only Dorling (30) offered any real resistance. Great spells from Phil Carr (3-19), Lewis Taylor (3-28) and a key wicket from Callum Olpin saw Swardeston limp to a very below par 162 all out. The Garboldisham run chase started …

Garboldisham lost the toss and were put in to bat on a slow, spongey, green wicket. Opening batsman Henry Phoenix had picked up a blow to the knee playing rugby the day before and he struggled to find his usual fluid style and Garboldisham made a painfully slow start that was made worse as their wickets started to tumble. By the 21 over half-way stage the score was just 54 for 4. Young Dan Taylor looked to be the only batsman who could tame the Diss bowling attack and the unpredictable nature of the wicket, and he was unlucky to …
