It was four wins out of four for Garboldisham on Saturday 2 July 2016! Here’s our round-up of each match.
Downham Town 1st XI v Garboldisham 1st XI
After last week’s disappointing home defeat to Diss, Garboldisham Firsts travelled to Downham Market. Captain Danny Cash won the toss and put the hosts in to bat and Downham clocked up 182-8 after a rain reduced 45 over innings. In reply, Garby got off to a comfortable start but as wickets began to fall, the pressure mounted… but Garboldisham kept their heads and just scraped over the line finishing on 183 for 8 in the 42nd over. It was a close and exciting win for GCC Firsts that pushes them up to third place in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division.
Garboldisham 2nd XI v Sheringham 1st XI
The Seconds were at home to Sheringham. The visitors won the toss and Garboldisham were put in to bat and found themselves bowled out for 163 in the 43rd over with Ben Asker picking up 36 runs and Rory Olpin 30. With bat in hand, Sheringham stumbled to just 65 runs before they were bowled out in the 30th over. Great bowling from the whole team with Jimmy Gooderham on 4-16. The Seconds are having a fantastic run this season and they remain undefeated and top of the Norfolk Alliance Div 4 with over 200 points! Here’s Captain Paul Feavearyear’s summary of the game:
The 2s had a good win, with a strong bowling performance, making the winning margin look more comfortable after a very average performance with the bat.
Sheringham won the toss and elected to bowl. The GCC openers made a solid start, however once the first wicket fell, losing Whistler for 19, wickets fell at regular intervals. GCC resumed after a rain break on 107 for 4, but quickly slumped to 129 for 9. However a late partnership between Rory Olpin (30) and Sean Taylor (10*)saw GCC finish on a 163 all out in the 44th over. Ben Asker top scored with 36 at the top of the order.
The GCC attack bowled with accuracy and consistency, never letting the Sheringham batsmen get established with opener King (23) providing the only resistance. Tom Davey (2-13) and Sean Taylor (1-7) bowled very well upfront, well supported by all change bowlers, Danny Philpot (1-20), Jack Buckmaster (2-5), and Jimmy Gooderham (4-16), all taking wickets on a regular basis to see Sheringham dismissed for 65 in the 31st over. After their lead being eroded over the past weeks, with two abandoned fixtures, the 2nds find themselves top with a margin of 34 points from nearest rivals Dersingham.
Gooderstone 1st XI v Garboldisham 3rd XI
Gooderstone won the toss and put Garboldisham in to bat. Runs from Charlie Wright (36), Andy Freake (27) and youngsters Sam Baker (24), Phil Carr (26) and Toby Culling (19) all helped Garby finish their innings on 170 all out. The chase was on for Gooderstone who came close but not quite close enough – ending up 12 runs short on 159 all out. Pick of the Garby bowlers was Callum Olpin (3-34) and Phil Carr (2-22). Garboldisham 3rd XI are now third in the Norfolk Cricket League Level 2 West Division
Garboldisham 4th XI v Hardingham 3rd XI
GCC won the toss, fielded first and bowled the visitors all out for just 42 runs in the 20th over which included devastating figures of 5 wickets for 2 runs from youngster George Southgate! Well done George. Garby chased down Hardingham’s total in just the 5th over with Joe Baker scoring 23. This win leaves the 4ths in third place in the Norfolk Cricket League Level 4 South and West Division.
