After a week of sunshine, the rains hit Friday night and carried on into Saturday morning to wash out the 2nds and 3rds home games against Rocklands and Drayton at The Langley. The 4ths fared no better with their away game being called off at Ketteringham Hall. But over at Dereham the pitch was judged to be good enough to play on and the 1sts game went ahead. Garboldisham were put in to bat but lost early wickets and, soon after, went off for a very long rain delay. Back on the field the Garby wickets continued to fall with only youngster, Callum Olpin, holding things together and finishing not out, plus there was a bit of tail wagging with cameos from Rob Fuller and Andy Emms. Garby finished on 167 all out. Bowling in wet conditions and with poor light, the Garboldisham bowlers found it difficult to bowl to their full potential due to the slippery crease and the sodden ball. That said, Dereham batted well and knocked off the runs with only one wicket down to finish on 168 for 1.
On Sunday the pitches at The Langley had dried sufficiently for a county women’s three-way t20 tournament to go ahead between Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Norfolk Ladies lost to Suffolk by 3 wickets but there was consolation in Norfolk’s match against Cambridgeshire – the match ended in drama with both sides finishing on 101 runs each but with Norfolk going on to win a deciding ‘super over’.
